Marginal Way and Barnacle Billy’s: A Wicked Maine Engagment on Film
Taylor and Mike are INCREDIBLY FUN and spending the afternoon with them in Perkins Cove was a JOY and a half. We decided on the coastal Maine town of Ogunquit. shopping in Perkin’s Cove and smashing lobster rolls at Barnacle Billy’s. (If it rained our next choice was Billy’s Chowder House and if you know YOU KNOW! ) Late May was perfect timing as things were open but not crowded. Coastal towns don't attract the big crowds until the beach season hits so we had a lot of space to ourselves!
We had no trouble getting a small table at and ordering Rum Punches at Barnacle Bill's. We sat outside, chilled, and discussed the new Taylor Swift album LOL! Our timing was great as the spot began filling up as soon as the lobster rolls and rum punches were done.
There is always this beautiful calm in the off season that makes it easy to get photos along Marginal Way.
We were all in awe of the change in the landscape since last season. In January, two powerful storms struck the area within days of each other. Marginal Way was particularly hard hit. Sections of the pavement were erroded and they shut down the paths to fix the damage. Luckily for us it was re-opened in March, but not without obvious signs of damage.
The shore was covered with rocks and some of the inlets were inaccessible. A few of small inlet staircases got smashed by the waves in a recent storm and were papered with CAUTION tape. Vegetation was smashed, but still showing signs of coming back. The path was enpty enough we had no issue taking photos without getting in ayone's way. Taylor & Mike went out and expolred the rocks, and we finally found one staircase that wasnt blocked!
This gave us a chance to play in the sand! Taylor kicked off her shoes and the dancing and frolicking began. The water was pretty cold (toes were dipped) but the slight breeze in the air made the perfect weather to enjoy. It was very much giving New England Beach vibes. Complete with the BOW, which is a trend I will never not love. More BOWS PLEASE!
For film people: This group of photos and was all shot on Ektar 100 Medium Format film in the Mamiya 645. ITS SO DREAMY! I over exposed it by 1.5 stops and the soft lighting really helped the skin tones come out more true to color than usual.
A mini gallery of the images shot on my toy Holga camera.
We finished the session off by walking back along the trail which is just as gorgeous going the other way! Not pictured: Delicious food and drinks at That Place. (Tay and Mike deserved a break from the camera). I will leave you with this pup we met at the restaurant while enjoying Martinis and Margaritas!
